2016 – $10,000 General Support

Flatbread Society Seed Journey is a seafaring voyage connected to a public art project in the former port of Bjorvika in Oslo, Norway. Seed Journey moves people, ideas and seeds upon an 1895, Colin Archer rescue sailboat from Oslo to Istanbul. Between October 2016 and November 2017 an international crew and a selection of ancient grains (that have been cultivated in Oslo) will return to their “center of origin”.

At ports of arrival, the boat will become a site for public programming and Seed Journey content will extend into the host institutions galleries. The crew, half from the US and half from Scandinavia and the Middle East, will enact their research at each port and extend the evolving conversation with local actors. Seed Journey links to a global conversation about biodiversity and climate change as it relates to seed saving, small scale agriculture and farmers rights.
